Bjarnveig received her Bar Association Licence to practice before District Courts in Iceland in 1987. She gives legal advise to domestic and foreign businesses and the Government on EEA Law and other national law, mainly on regulatory compliance of businesses and assisting the administration as to the proper compliance with EEA Law and business law, vis a vis national and international surveillance bodies. Bjarnveig university lecturer in EEA/EU law and is a member of the EU funded FreSsco network of experts in the field of free movement of persons in the EEA/EU.

Bjarnveig also provides for general legal advise in the field of solvency law, personal and family law, such as inheritance, pre-nuptual agreements, paternity and deprivation of liberty cases.

Bjarnveig works both in Icelandic and English and has a fair understanding of Danish and Norwegian.

Background and experience:

Bjarnveig Eiríksdóttir is one of the founding partners of VÍK Law. She has extensive experience in the public sector both in Iceland and abroad. She was a legal expert at the Ministry of Finance for almost a decade and a Senior Officer and Deputy Director in the Legal and Executive Affairs at the EFTA Surveillance Authority in Brussels for a number of years. She has also worked for the Ministry for Foreign Affaris, the Parliamentary Ombudsman and for the Reykjavik City Legal Councel. She was the chairman of the Public Auditor‘s Oversight Body in Iceland from 2009-2013. She was an Ad-Hoc Member of the EFTA Surveillance Authority from 2007-2013.

Bjarnveig is since 2010 the chairman of the Student Loan Fund Dispute Settlement Committee. She is a member of the Customs Board, a dispute settlement body for the Icelandic customs authorities.

Bjarnveig established her own law firm Evrópulög in 2007 and in 2010 VÍK Law together with former colleagues from the EFTA Surveillance Authority and EFTA Secretariat.

Bjarnveig has been lecturing EEA, EC and international Law in Iceland since 2004. Presently she is an adjunct lecturer in European Law at the Law Faculty of the University of Iceland.

Bjarnveig is a University of Iceland Law graduate (Cand Jur) 1984 and LL.M. in EC Law and International Economic Law in 1994 from the University of Edinburgh.
